SEN Classes at Bilal Academy

Accessible Islamic education tailored for children with Special Educational Needs — nurturing faith, skills and confidence in a structured, warm environment.

Why We Made SEN Our Priority

Due to the dire need in our community for readily available classes for SEN children, we made this our No.1 priority and built it into our madrassah system.

In September 2024 we started with 1 class of 5 children. Within a month, we opened 2 classes (10 students). Alhamdulillah, we are now at maximum capacity: 16 students across 2 classes — with many more on the waiting list.

With limited classrooms we cannot expand as much as we would love to; however, we continue to go from strength to strength, supporting our teachers and families with dedicated training and tools.

How Our SEN Classes Support Learners

Interactive Islamic Materials

Multi-sensory activities keep learners engaged and responsive while reinforcing what they learn in real time.

Structured Islamic Materials

Clear, predictable routines support children who benefit from consistency and step-by-step progression.

Interactive Audio Materials

Accurate recitations help children understand prayers better — providing strong auditory reinforcement.

Visual Aids

Illustrations and symbols benefit visual learners and help anchor key concepts in memory.

Social Skills

Collaborative, hands-on tasks build self-confidence and foster a warm sense of community.

Belonging & Identity

Tools tailored to needs — while respecting cultural and religious practices — nurture belonging and affirmation.

Tools That Support Our SEN Learners

Our SEN classes are designed to ensure every child feels supported in their Islamic learning journey. We use a range of multisensory and interactive methods to help children understand and enjoy their learning at a pace that suits them.

One of the key tools we use in our SEN classes is the My Salah Mat, an interactive prayer mat that provides visual, auditory, and step-by-step guidance for children learning to pray. This has been especially helpful for pupils who benefit from structured routines, clear cues, and hands-on learning.
